'X-Men: First Class' Star Calls Prequel 'Metaphor' For Real Life
Lucas Till tells MTV News why the flick stands out in a summer stacked with superheroes.

During our recent sit-downs with the cast of "X-Men: First Class" — a prequel and the fourth film in the "X-Men" franchise — the talk focused not so much on how the latest installment differs from the first three, but rather what separates "First Class" from all the other superhero-style movies opening this summer.
James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender pointed to the film's universal theme of struggling to fit in, for instance. For their co-star Lucas Till, what makes "First Class" stand out is how fans connect to the unique characters, whereas the competition often relies more on fun to pull in moviegoers.
"I feel like the question I wished you would have asked me is, 'How awesome does this summer look?' Because you've got completely different things," Till said when we asked what separates his flick from the rest of the pack. "With 'Captain America,' you've got a 1940s pulp-movie feel, and I feel like that's going to be its own separate thing; fun and entertaining. And then you've got 'Thor,' which is, like, a cool 'He-Man' episode, which I was thoroughly surprised with. Then you've got 'Green Lantern,' which I thought was going to be stupid, but kind of looks like a cool cartoon.
"This one," Till continued, returning to "First Class," "There's so many metaphors to real life and there's actual character development. I feel like you care about the characters, then there's an ensemble cast, which they're trying to do with 'Justice League' and 'Avengers.'
Till suddenly spouting so many comic-book films both surprised and impressed his "First Class" co-star Rose Byrne. "You're like a lexicon for superhero movies," she said with awe. "You really are, you have an intelligent perspective and context for them; I don't."
At which point their co-star Zoë Kravitz joked that Byrne now had the hots for Till.
"What are you doing later?" Byrne joked to Till.

'Fright Night' Star Liked Playing 'Something Evil, Dark'

At MTV's first official Sneak Peek Week movie Monday night (May 30), a group of lucky filmgoers were treated to a special preview screening of "Fright Night," Craig Gillespie's re-vamped telling (pun intended) of the 1985 horror comedy classic, starring Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
During the post-screening Q&A, special guests Mintz-Plasse and director Gillespie addressed the seemingly ever-present question of why and how vampires are so popular these days. "There's always vampires," Gillespie said. "Over the last couple of decades, there's 'The Lost Boys,' vampire Lestat [from 'Interview with the Vampire']. They go in and out, but they're always around. It's a funny thing about vampires, somebody was saying, 'Vampires are sexy; werewolves aren't sexy.' "
When asked if playing a vampire was something Mintz-Plasse had on his actor wish list before signing onto "Fright Night," he said he had so much fun that he now understands why so many people enjoy donning fangs and sucking blood onscreen. "It was awesome to do," Mintz-Plasse said. "Now I get it why people play vampires."
That is, everything but the intense make-up job he apparently had to endure. "The [make-up] was kind of a pain in the ass," Mintz-Plasse revealed. "Four hours a day sitting in a chair, getting that stuff done. It was cool to play something evil and dark, have this rasp to your voice and hate Anton [Yelchin, who plays Mintz-Plasse's character's former BFF], which is hard to do, he's a sweet guy, but it's cool to play that character."
Mintz-Plasse, Gillespie and "Fright Night" are just the beginning of our Sneak Peek Week lead into the Movie Awards. The five-day mini film fest is a week of special screenings designed to keep building the excitement for our annual, unpredictable and always-entertaining event.
Tuesday's screening is "The Art of Getting By," followed by a Q&A with stars Emma Roberts, Elizabeth Reaser, Michael Angarano and director Gavin Wiesen. Wednesday night, we'll screen "Horrible Bosses," with Jason Bateman and director Seth Gordon. Thursday night is "The Help," with Emma Stone and Bryce Dallas Howard; and Friday is "30 Minutes or Less" with Aziz Ansari, Michael Pena and Ruben Fleischer.

Mary J. Blige Dishes On Her 'Crazy' Led Zeppelin Covers
'I've listened to their music since I was a child,' says the R&B diva, who recorded 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love.'

You wouldn't peg Mary J Blige as the black-light-and-tapestry sort, but, as has become readily apparent in recent weeks, she absolutely loves Led Zeppelin.
In early February, reports began circulating that Blige had re-recorded Zeppelin's classic "Stairway to Heaven," working with Travis Barker, "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson and guitarist Steve Vai on the track, which is slated to appear on the international reissue of her Stronger With Each Tear album, due Monday.
But after she had recorded "Stairway," Blige continued to get the Led out, covering another Zeppelin classic — the thunderous "Whole Lotta Love" — for the album too. And when MTV News caught up with her on the Essence Black Women in Hollywood red carpet, she told us all about channeling her inner Robert Plant for the tracks, a process that came much easier than you'd probably imagine.
"I did Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love' — it's crazy," she said. "I am a Led Zeppelin fan. I'm not going to say I've been to their concerts, but I've listened to their music since I was a child, and it's always moved me, especially 'Stairway to Heaven,' and 'Whole Lotta Love' is just fun."
Blige also said she recorded another new song — a "club record" called "I Can't Wait" — for the re-release. And while it's only slated to hit shelves outside the U.S., she hopes her fans will get a chance to hear all the new songs pretty soon.
"I want y'all to hear it," she laughed.

Lady Gaga Fans Get Emotional About 'Inside The Outside' Special
'This interview was so sweet, I cried. She gives me hope for humanity,' one fan tweets about the MTV doc.

As her quest for world domination proceeds, Lady Gaga teamed up with MTV for an exclusive sit-down chat about her extraordinary journey to pop music royalty for the "Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside" documentary, which premiered on Thursday night. In it, Gaga discusses her early career struggles and whirlwind rise to fame, a tale that has all of her Little Monsters abuzz after watching it.
Reactions to the hour-long special have been strong, with an overwhelming response coming in from fans who were selected to attend our special after-show live stream, users on the MTV News site and the social networks in between.
One of those Monsters chosen to visit MTV studios Thursday night was Adrianna, who told MTV News that she was personally touched by Gaga's account of her bullying incident. "I was been bullied all through high school, and I kind of want to thank those people in an awkward way because I wouldn't be the same person, just like Lady Gaga wouldn't be the same person," she shared. "We wouldn't be as strong and confident with ourselves if it wasn't for those people."
Decked out in Gaga-like leather gear, Adrianna explained that Mother Monster is a role model to those who may still endure bullying, and that ultimately she is an inspirational star.
MTV News' Facebook page was also flooded by a wave of Little Monsters who couldn't help but gush about the doc. Users like Jimmy Aleman got emotional watching the special, saying, "I saw it :) It made me cry. She is a true woman." And Rossi Ruska Coles appreciated the pop star's defiant story, writing, "Thank you for this great one hour, the true and real Gaga! Love her and her self-identity!"
Chifi55 also got in on the fun by commenting on MTV News' site, saying, "She's so honest and true ... You just can't believe how amazing and loving and kind she is. She was nothing and became the world's greatest pop star ... There is no one who deserves it more than her!"
Despite the 140-character limit, Gaga fans were also quick to hit us up via Twitter to share their thoughts on "Inside the Outside." Superfan Ryan Lee tweeted, "I cried watching the special. Whoever made it should win an award because they captured the beauty of the angel that is Lady Gaga."
HausOfKels revealed she also couldn't hold back tears, writing, "This interview was so sweet, I cried. She gives me hope for humanity. Her message changed my life + made me stronger. xo #MTVGAGA."
And it wasn't just Little Monsters who tuned in to the MTV special, but also some non-fans, including sayjay41297, who admitted she's been transformed. "I didn't know all that much about Gaga, but now I'm really inspired and I think I've just became a Little Monster. #mtvgaga," she wrote.
Like sayjay41297, RickG63 shared a similar reaction to the doc, but had one minor complaint, tweeting, "Fantastic show, but her interviews are never long enough. Thank you for the show. It was great to see. Now you know why we love Gaga."
