Britney Spears And Jo Calderone: A VMA Romance?

Lady Gaga's male alter ego even got fresh with Brit after her VMA tribute.

On Sunday night at the 2011 Video Music Awards, Lady Gaga's alter ego Jo Calderone met the princess of pop herself, Britney Spears. Gaga, in full drag as Calderone, and Spears had a bit of a VMA romance, sharing kind words -- and even swapping spit.

"It was interesting, her character," Spears later told MTV News about the encounter, even dishing how the kiss between the two took place. "We got onstage and we felt it out."

Spears, of course, has already kissed a famous pop star on the VMA stage, when she and Madonna locked lips back in 2003. And it's that kind of free spirit that Calderone noted in his speech about the singer. "She taught us all how to be fearless, and the industry wouldn't be the same without her," Calderone said when he not only kicked off the tribute to the star, but also later presented her with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Click here to see Beyonce's baby bump, the kiss between Britney and Lady Gaga and more.

After a troupe of dancers, who performed dance routines to everything from " ... Baby One More Time" and "Crazy" to "Toxic" and "Do Somethin'," left the stage, Calderone and Spears came face to face, and lips to lips. Although Spears seemed fine with the initial kiss, when he tried to make a few more advances, Spears rebuffed him with a big smile on her face.

He took it like a gentleman, adding, "I don't want Gaga to get pissed."

So was Gaga completely Calderone the whole time? "She's in full character," Spears later added. "Yes, definitely."

During Wednesday's (August 31) airing of "Good Morning America," the professional dancers slated to partner up with celebrities on "Dancing With the Stars" were revealed. So, who will be dancing with Rob Kardashian, Kristin Cavallari and the rest?

Pro soccer player Hope Solo will cha-cha along with "DWTS" vet Maksim Chmerkovskiy, whose partner last season was Kirstie Alley. Chaz Bono will dance with Lacey Schwimmer, who last danced with Mike Catherwood.

"All My Children" actor and retired soldier J.R. Martinez has been paired with Karina Smirnoff, who has previously danced with "Jersey Shore" star The Situation and, most recently, Ralph Macchio. Nancy Grace will shimmy with Irish dance pro Tristan MacManus, who's making his debut on the show this season.

Kim, Khloë and Kourtney's baby brother, Rob Kardashian, will hit the dance floor with two-time champion Cheryl Burke. Her last partner was pro wrestler Chris Jericho. Other pairs include Ron "Metta World Peace" Artest and Peta Murgatroyd, and former talk show host Ricki Lake and three-time champ Derek Hough. He helped Jennifer Grey dance to victory in season 11.

George Clooney's former leading lady Elisabetta Canalis is paired Maksim's brother Val Chmerkovskiy, who has previously appeared on the show in dance numbers. Carson Kressley will dance with Anna Trebunskaya.

When asked if he'd just met his partner for the first time, Kressley said, "We did, like five minutes ago. ... You have to know how to dance so she's going to teach me and I'm going to be amazing." Trebunskaya's last partner was Sugar Ray Leonard.

Chynna Phillips will dance with Wendy Williams' former partner, Tony Dovolani, and David Arquette will dance with Kym Johnson, whose last partner, Hines Ward, danced to victory.

Following in the footsteps of former "Hills" frenemy Audrina Patridge, who danced with Dovolani, Kristin Cavallari will be on this season of "DWTS." She'll dance with two-time champ Mark Ballas, whose last partner was Chelsea Kane.

Janet Jackson Thrills Fans With Greatest Hits, Michael Tribute At Radio City

Singer covered songs ranging from classic 'Pleasure Principle' to 2008's 'Feedback' at New York show.
By Vaughn Schoonmaker

NEW YORK — Often imitated, never duplicated, Janet Jackson's outbursts of meticulous choreography, sassy exclamations and smoldering gazes into the audience kept them on their feet for the entire two-hour set of her greatest hits at Radio City Music Hall. Monday night marked the last of three sold-out shows at the historic venue on her monumental Number Ones: Up Close and Personal Tour.

Up-and-coming boy band Mindless Behavior opened the show with songs including "#1 Girl," "Future" and their debut single, "My Girl." With their Usher-esque dance moves and shouts like "Where the ladies at?" the boys brought the tween girls out of hiding, judging by the shrill screams escaping various corner of the music hall.

At 9:00 sharp, the lights went down and Janet's fans were on the edge of their seats, watching music videos for "The Best Things in Life Are Free" and "Rhythm Nation" projected on big screens across the venue. A small shadow drifted toward center stage, and when the colorful lights came up, Jackson, wrapped in a shoulder-padded catsuit, complete with slick short hair, blasted into "The Pleasure Principle," dancing as hard and intensely choreographed as she did when the song first came out in the 1980s.

With barely a spare second between songs, Janet dazzled her way through her biggest hits, including "Miss You Much," "All for You" and "Nasty," and more recent hits like 2008's "Feedback."

Videos displayed during Jackson's costume changes included vintage clips from "Diff'rent Strokes," a funny scene from "Poetic Justice" where Jackson slyly rejects the advances of Tupac Shakur's character, and a rather heavy scene, as Jackson's character in "Why Did I Get Married" destroys her husband's house with a golf club, screaming hysterically.

Considering the tough couple of years the Jackson family has faced, the dark moments in the video seemed fitting, and everyone was beside themselves with bittersweet joy when Michael Jackson's face popped up on the big screen and she performed their hit single "Scream."

Janet emerged for her encore in a tight white one-piece disco suit, and performed "Diamonds," "Make Me" and "Together Again," which appeared to be the biggest hit of the evening. As Jackson graciously bowed out, her straight face transitioned into a smirk, suggesting that despite the hard times she has experienced recently, we can expect to see this singing and dancing pop legend shine far into the future.

"Its amazing!" Janet fan Elena Mercantini gleamed afterward. "It's like she's still 20 years old!"

"She's hot, she's amazing and she's still got it after all these years" added Alison Klinger of Long Island. "Best concert I've ever been to!"

Wiz Khalifa, Amber Rose Discuss Marriage 'All The Time'

'When the time comes, it's gonna come,' Rose tells MTV News on VMA Pre-Show black carpet.

Is wedding planning on the busy itineraries of Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose? The hip-hop power couple has never been shy when it comes to public displays of affection, and apparently they aren't timid about discussing marriage, either.

"We discuss it all the time; like he said, we're very much in love," Rose told MTV News while standing next to her "Black and Yellow" rapper beau on the VMA Pre-Show black carpet. "But, ya know, we're just going to take our time and just enjoy each other right now. We're both really busy and we work really hard and when the time comes, it's gonna come."

Besides working on some music and a film with her man, Rose said having a baby with Wiz is also on her agenda. The former Ford model and ex-girlfriend of Kanye West recently admitted to Global Grind that she's eager to procreate with the Pittsburgh rapper. "I want to be a mom really bad. I really want babies," she told the website. "I'll be 28 in October, and my maternal instinct is ready."

In March, Wiz appeared on MTV News' "RapFix Live," and Amber Rose joined him on the couch for a portion of the interview. Rose revealed what attracted her to the Best New Artist nominee.

"He's really funny, he's really charming," she said. "I didn't know much about his music at first and, obviously, he became a good friend. I started listening to his music. He's awesome, he's talented. He's amazing."

Miley Cyrus is ready to take her music back on the road. The teen superstar is in the planning process for a full-scale international tour, E! News confirms.

Miley will kick off the tour on April 29 at Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa in Quito, Ecuador. Then she will take the show to Lima, Peru, at Explanada del Monumental, on May 1. The singer/actress, who has already begun a workout regime to prep for the tour, is set to announce more dates soon. There are no immediate plans for her to play shows in the United States.

"Miley has a huge fanbase worldwide," a source told E! News. "She's pumped that her schedule has opened up and allowed her to perform for fans abroad."

For those who might not be able to see her on tour, Cyrus has resumed tweeting. No, the star has not reinstated her account, like Demi Lovato, but instead will send messages from the Twitter account of production team Rock Mafia. Cyrus is attached to a big-screen adaptation of the group's music video for their track "The Big Bang," which she starred in with Kevin Zegers.

"This is my new way to connect. When I need to speak out I will tweet from @Rock_Mafia ROCK MAFIA FOREVER. x MC," she tweeted, including a picture of herself and the group's Antonina Armato, who added, "Writing with Miley on a Rainy Sunday #Heaven!"

Cyrus has been meeting with lots of music producers recently. Last week she met with "Party in the U.S.A." producer Dr. Luke. Sources tell MTV News that Miley is interested in writing more for other artists.

Katy Perry Ties Michael Jackson Singles Record

'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)' marks Perry's fifth #1 single from Teenage Dream, equal only to MJ's Bad achievement.
By Jocelyn Vena

Katy Perry
Photo: C. Flanigan/ FilmMagic

Back in June, Katy Perry was closing in on Michael Jackson's record for the most #1 singles from the same album — and now she's tied it up. Thanks to the feel-good party jam "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)," Perry has the same number of #1 singles from Teenage Dream on the Hot 100 as the late King of Pop did from 1987's Bad.

Now, Perry is both the only woman with five #1 singles from the same album and also the only living artist with that record. So what singles got her there aside from "Last Friday Night"? Perry's previous #1's from Teenage Dream are "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream," "Firework" and "E.T." Jackson achieved this feat back in 1987 and 1988 with "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," "Bad," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Man in the Mirror" and "Dirty Diana" from his Bad album.

"What a way to wake up! SO proud to announce that the little-engine-that-could of a song 'LAST FRIDAY NIGHT' is officially #1 & made HISTORY!" the singer tweeted Wednesday (August 17). "&u know, I couldn't have done it with out ya, really I owe u guys BIG... so take this moment to give yourself a high FIVE!!! #allbecauseofu."

Explore our "Katy Perry: By The Numbers" infographic:

Perry broke another singles record earlier this month, having the first album from the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart to have five #1 singles. Perry's Teenage Dream album is the first in the nearly 19-year history of the chart to accomplish that feat.

"Last Friday Night" has proven to be another successful track for the star, and the party anthem recently got an assist from Missy Elliott on the remix.

Perry's Teenage Dream videos have also been cultural smashes. For the 2011 Video Music Awards, Perry racked up the most nominations with nine, including nods for Video of the Year and Best Female Video for "Firework"; Best Pop Video for "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"; and Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Special Effects for the Floria Sigismondi-directed "E.T.," which features fellow nominee Kanye West. Her dreamy "Teenage Dream" clip even nabbed a nomination for Best Cinematography.

What's your favorite Teenage Dream single? Let us know in the comments below!

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. See the list of nominees, revisit last year's highlights and vote for your favorites in the general categories by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Slash Light Up Super Bowl XLV Halftime Show

Foursome is joined by special guests and tons of lights for smash-hit medley.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

Black Eyed Peas perform during the Super Bowl XLV halftime show

The Black Eyed Peas promised a party at the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday (February 6), and the pop supernovas definitely delivered, with a performance teeming with lights, dancers and surprise appearances from celebrity pals.

Following a Chatter.com commercial that showed animated versions of the Peas showing off their social-media skills, the group kicked things off with their 2009 smash "I Gotta Feeling," descending from the ceiling on illuminated platforms onto a stage surrounded by a cluster of dancers clad in white bodysuits. The foursome led the team of fist-pumping troops in "Tron"-like getups, with Taboo sporting an outfit covered in flashing lights, will.i.am rocking a shiny hairpiece, Apl.de.ap wearing huge bright studs and Fergie vamping it up in bling-laden shoulder pads.

When the speaker-busting bass of "Boom Boom Pow" dropped, the dancers dispersed across the field to create arrow-shaped formations as the glow-in-the-dark lights on their suits illuminated the stadium. Then rumored surprise guest Slash of Guns N' Roses rose from below the stage for a "Sweet Child O' Mine" duet with Fergie. The GNR great rocked a finger-searing solo in a studded version of his signature black top hat as more angular platforms and dancers moved across the gridiron. The platforms were bearing scores of marching-band musicians who blasted their horns and pounded away on their drums as the Peas went into "Pump It" and blue lights splashed across the production.

Quick streams of fog heralded the arrival of the Peas' second surprise guest, Usher, who swooped in on a long chain to bust out his will.i.am-assisted joint "OMG." Rocking a sparkly collar on an otherwise all-white ensemble, the R&B hitmaker cranked out several counts of energetic choreography, enlivening moves from his "OMG" video and at one point jumping over Will and landing in a split.

A spray of pyro ushered in the collective's breakout 2003 hit "Where Is the Love?" as the oddly shaped platforms spelled out the word "Love" in bright-red letters. The team of dancers, which appeared to have multiplied to over 100, formed hearts across the field as will updated the lyrics of the smash with lines like, "Obama, let's get these educated."

Then the group jumped ahead to their most recent single, 2010's "The Time (Dirty Bit)," as several back up hoofers rocking cubed helmets joined the Peas onstage and dancers lined up along the gridiron to simultaneously bust out the Running Man, a move which drew cheers from the crowd.

The platinum-selling Peas wrapped up the performance with a reprise of "I Gotta Feeling," as the quartet triumphantly signed off amid of blitz of fog, firepower and flashing lights.

Ripping the halftime show was clearly a touching moment for will, who tweeted beforehand, "Me and apl started the peas when we were 16 yesterday we were dreamin now were livin it. Wow. I'm not crying out of sadness or nervousness its joy and pride and memories and the journey."

And once the crew left the stage, the frontman was not only proud, but pumped. "That was so freakin sick," he wrote. "Wow...!!!"

Beyonce At VMAs And More Public Baby Reveals

Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez have also taken to live audiences to break the news.
By James Dinh

Beyoncé set Twitter on fire when she hinted on the VMA black carpet that she was set to make a big announcement, placing a hand on her stomach. Speculation turned into overwhelming joy when the pop superstar announced her pregnancy at the end of her "Love on Top" performance by unbuttoning her sparkling blazer and rubbing her noticeable bump.

Bey's public announcement came as a bit of a surprise, given that the songstress usually gets media-shy when asked anything about her personal life during interviews. MTV News reached out to pop-culture expert Rob Shuter, columnist for HuffPost Celebrity, for his thoughts on how she revealed the big news. "I thought it was so brilliant that somebody as private as Beyoncé and Jay-Z would make their own rules to address the fact that she's clearly pregnant," he said.

Shuter explained that the power couple's private nature made the revelation all the more joyous. "I love that this couple who has made it a policy to not talk about their personal life would once again do that, let us in on this huge secret, without ever really uttering any words."

Click for photos of Beyoncé's big VMA night.

Kim Kardashian, a real pro at living publicly, told MTV News that she admired B's choice of venue. "I thought it was really cool of her to come out and show that at the VMAs, 'cause music is her outlet. She could have done it with any magazine or news station, but she chose her home."

Beyoncé is now among the ranks of other starlets who have chosen creative venues to reveal the anticipated news. Take a look at how some other A-list moms revealed their baby bumps:

Britney Spears, 2006
Surprises come by the dozen when we're talking about Britney Spears' life and career, and she had another one up her sleeve when she took to "The Late Show With David Letterman" in May 2006 to confirm her second pregnancy with then-husband Kevin Federline. "Don't worry, Dave. It's not yours," the pop star laughingly told the late-night host after he circled around the question. Spears gave birth to her son Jayden James Federline that September and filed for divorce just two months later.

Jennifer Lopez, 2007
It was only appropriate that J.Lo chose a concert as her venue to announce that she and husband Marc Anthony were having a baby — he was the tour's co-headliner. "We didn't want to say anything before, because we didn't want to take away from the tour, but Marc and I are expecting," the pop star revealed to fans during the Miami stop of her El Cantante Tour. Anthony then turned to his wife, kissed her belly and told the crowd that he "did not expect her to say anything." Lopez gave birth to fraternal twins Emme and Maximilian Muñiz, in early 2008.

Ashlee Simpson, 2008
Ashlee Simpson and then-husband Pete Wentz make our list not because of their announcement but because of their steadfast policy before they made it: deny, deny, deny. Simpson even shied away from the question during an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" as the pregnancy rumors were at their height. "Well, that has been going on for quite a while. That is something that I choose personally not to discuss," Simpson said, before cracking a joke about whether she looks like she can eat "10 cheese burgers or something." Almost a month later, the couple took to FriendsOrEnemies.com to confirm the news, writing, "While many have speculated about this, we wanted to wait until after the first trimester to officially confirm that we are expecting our first child."

Jessica Alba, 2011
Some use their Facebook news feed to talk about work or current events. Some use it to talk with friends. Jessica Alba used it to announce her pregnancy to the world. "It's been a while since I've been on FB & I thought I'd drop by to let you all in on some exciting news>Honor is going to be a Big Sister!" the actress wrote in February. Just a couple weeks ago, Alba gave birth to a baby girl named Haven Garner Warren and, as expected, took to her Facebook profile to announce the news.

Post Your Well Wishes For Jay and Bey on Facebook.

Hilary Duff, 2011
Hilary Duff also favors the Internet for her personal revelations. In celebration of her one-year anniversary to husband Mike Comrie, the starlet offered fans with an extra special blog post. "I can't believe it has already been a year, time really flies when you're having fun!" she wrote on her website in mid-August. "We also want to share the exciting news that ...... BABY MAKES THREE!!!" Since then, the former Disney actress has taken to her Twitter to dish on her many pregnancy cravings: "Today it was rice crispy treats! trying really hard to give them ALL away!!!"

Which is your favorite celebrity pregnancy announcement? Share your thoughts below!

Miley Cyrus Defends Gay Rights Tattoo

Cyrus tweeted a photo of her equal-sign tattoo over the weekend, prompting debate among fans regarding gay rights.

Miley Cyrus has never shied away from speaking her mind, and over the weekend she posted a photo of her latest body ink on Twitter: an equal-sign tattoo on her ring finger.

In addition to sharing with the world her pro-gay rights stance via tat, she tweeted the message, "All LOVE is equal." However, the photo quickly prompted a debate on her Twitter account when fans began to respond to Miley's tattoo with mixed feelings.

"Where does it say in the bible to judge others? Oh right. It doesn't," Miley tweeted to one fan who questioned her belief in God after displaying her support of the gay community. "GOD is the only judge honey. GOD is love."

But when her fans began attacking the fan who questioned her, Miley defended her for sharing her opinion with the world. "Dude everyone lay off ... Love u! Everyone is entitled 2 opinions! If u don't stand 4 something you'll fall for anything."

Her Twitter profile shares a similar message: "Let your light shine. Be a source of strength & courage. Share your wisdom. RADIATE LOVE."

This isn't the first time that Miley's sharing her beliefs on Twitter has sparked debate. In a Parade magazine interview in March 2010, Cyrus said that one of the reasons she had quit Twitter for a time was that she was getting angry tweets from fans who didn't agree with her support of gay marriage. She returned to Twitter earlier this year.

"There has been so much controversy sometimes about what I've said or done because I believe there are no mistakes, because God is the only one who can judge us," Cyrus explained. "That's the reason I deleted my Twitter account because I said on there that I believed in gay marriage because everyone should have the right to love each other, and I got such hate mail about my being a bad person."

What do you think of Miley's outspoken support of marriage equality and gay rights? Tell us in the comments.

'Our Idiot Brother': The Reviews Are In!

Paul Rudd, in the title role, walks away with much of the critics' praise in this ensemble comedy.
By Terri Schwartz

Even with strong performances from the ensemble cast in "Our Idiot Brother," the Sundance darling is being heralded as Paul Rudd's movie. Reviews for the comedy, which opened on Friday (August 25), are heralding Rudd's turn as one of the best of his career. And although the response has been generally positive, critics did take issue with some of the other idiotic parts of the movie.

Some found the script's approach to the characters too formulaic: Rudd's character might be an idiot, but he is actually a commendable guy when compared to his three jaded sisters, his hippie ex-girlfriend and his wine-drinking mother. Others thought the movie was a bit unconvincing despite its well-meaning message. Still, the jump from "My Idiot Brother" at Sundance to "Our Idiot Brother" in wide-release seems to imply a more inclusive element to the film that resounded with critics.

So will "Our Idiot Brother" charm you? Here's what the critics had to say:

The Idiot Brother
"Though the ensemble cast is uniformly strong, this is Rudd's film. His inherent likability and genial manner are ideal for the character. He plays laid-back especially well. (His aging surfer dude in 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' was a variation on Ned.) Watching Rudd bring dimension to what could have been a clownish caricature is the best reason to see this good-natured family comedy. 'Our Idiot Brother' is as irresistible and easy to love as a golden retriever." — Claudia Puig, USA Today

The Characters
"Peeking out from a curtain of shaggy hair and a beard, Rudd invests Ned with every ounce of the effusive, natural warmth that has become his trademark. And like so many movies in his career, he makes Our Idiot Brother much more tolerable than it deserves to be. Screenwriters Evgenia Peretz and David Schisgall play up Ned's innocence by making his sisters thoroughly unappealing: Emily Mortimer plays a dowdy, sad-sack hausfrau married to a pompous documentarian (played with withering contempt by Steve Coogan); Elizabeth Banks flails in a misguided brunet pageboy as a ruthless Vanity Fair reporter; and Zooey Deschanel lends spaced-out self-absorption to a lesbian tempted by a similarly navel-gazing male artist." — Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post

The Script
"You want to laugh at this, except the movie is forcing you to do so. Adultery and dysfunction are cute problems. Deschanel's character shares a loft with her girlfriend (Rashida Jones, underutilized again and still the best thing here) and a gang of bohemians who don't get up to anything interesting. Though Deschanel's compulsion to play another Quirky Performance Artist is satisfied. Banks (shrill careerist) and Mortimer (neurotic wimp) conform to type, too. Ned makes their relationships harder than they already appear to be. He's a gimmick, and yet without him the movie is just Hanna-Barbera and Her Sisters. Either way, it's all emotionally counterfeit, and that bogusness infects the comedy." — Wesley Morris, The Boston Globe

The Direction
"Efficiently directed by Jesse Peretz, (Ms. Peretz's brother, evidently quite capable), Our Idiot Brother is a thin, unconvincing movie made likable by the charm and skill of its cast and by a script (by Ms. Peretz and her husband, David Schisgall) peppered with wit and insight. ... A handful of scenes — a visit to a cultish self-help seminar, a family game of charades with Mom (Shirley Knight), a profile interview gone off the rails — are sharp, funny and surprising. But the filmmakers mostly look for humor in obvious, picked-over places. Can we please have a moratorium on private-school interviews? Like yoga classes (which this movie blessedly leaves alone), they are hard in real life and suspiciously easy in movies." — A.O. Scott, The New York Times

The Final Word
" My Idiot Brother might have made Ned more of a symbol and less of a person. Where the filmmakers, and Mr. Rudd, go right is making him such a round and sympathetic figure, rather than the desperate, pathetic and/or slapstick character he might have been in different hands. Our Idiot Brother — not My or Your or Their idiot brother — is goofily funny, and silly, and in many ways follows the currents of contemporary comedy into the gulf stream of inanity. And yet Ned turns out to be a strangely moving figure, a comic foil worthy of affection, perhaps even respect." — John Anderson, The Wall Street Journal

Justin Bieber Joins Taylor Swift Onstage In L.A.

Teen heartthrob surprised concertgoers when he joined Swift for a duet on 'Baby' Tuesday night.

Justin Bieber is all about surprises this summer. Back in July, the 17-year-old pop superstar took fans by surprise when he joined Selena Gomez onstage in Costa Mesa, California, and on Tuesday night, he made another unexpected appearance when he joined Taylor Swift onstage for a duet of his hit "Baby" at her Speak Now tour stop in Los Angeles.

Video footage of the duo's performance at the Staples Center hit the Internet shortly after the concert. It shows the music superstars sharing song verses and Bieber spitting a brief rap midway through the number.

Swift took to Twitter hours later to applaud her roaring concert audience and their overwhelming reaction to the Bieb's surprise appearance. "Dear amazing LA crowd tonight, God only knows what I'd be without you," she wrote. "You think you've heard LOUD screaming in your life. Then @justinbieber comes out and does a surprise song during your show. Woah. Unreal."

Bieber responded to the country-pop darling, tweeting, "@taylorswift13 we should do that more often. :) great show! #muchlove."

It was nothing but love as Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, also chimed in on the surprise concert cameo. "Had to keep it a secret all day. But @justinbieber just came out and sang BABY with @taylorswift13 at STAPLES. EPIC ROAR! #greatmoment," he wrote on Twitter.

Bieber also recently collaborated with Chris Brown. Earlier this month, the Video Music Award nominee showed off his rap skills on "Ladies Love Me," a track that appears on Breezy's Boy in Detention mixtape.

VMA Pre-Show Behind-The-Scenes: Wiz Khalifa Dresses Down, More

The stories behind the arrivals of Rebecca Black, LMFAO, Kreayshawn and more.

LOS ANGELES — There was so much action on the 2011 VMA black-carpet pre-show it was hard to keep track. But along with all the stuff you did see, there was a whole lot you didn't get to see, which is why we kept an eye on everything that was going on behind-the-scenes too.

» Beyoncé blew minds not just by being her regal self, but by touching her clearly pregnant belly and letting slip to the paparazzi in the glittering photo pit that she had an "announcement" to make during the big show.

» When LMFAO set off a really loud party popper while talking to Kreayshawn, we all jumped a little bit.

» Always up for a party, the boys from MTV's "The Buried Life" were scrambling to make it down the carpet in their heels. Oh, did we mention that they were in full drag as part of the latest item on their bucket list? Their glittering cocktail dresses were a sight, though once the camera lights went off, they couldn't stress enough how hard it was to walk in towering heels. Also, they were sweating ... a lot.

» Before all the drama, Kreayshawn was feeling giddy after her first stroll down a VMA red carpet. "They kept saying, 'Turn this way, turn this way,'" she said wide-eyed after running the gauntlet in the paparazzi pit, where her spangly Minnie Mouse minidress was lit up by the flashes of the hordes of snappers.

» And the hits kept on coming, including Rebecca "Friday" Black rocking the teeniest, tiniest black satin suit with hot pants, and Wiz Khalifa dressed way down for the night, wearing sagging gray jeans, a Steelers hat and a white wifebeater, while love Amber Rose was summer fresh in a short white jumpsuit. Lil Twist's towering high-top fade? Nothing lil' about it!

» Best chain ever. LMFAO's SkyBlu had a plastic medallion that read @skysnuts in Swarovski crystals.

» Paul Rudd fist-pumped a fan in the crowd. Literally, just clarifying because sometimes fist pumping sounds dirty, you know?

» Talk about awkward, Rebecca Black hopped up to speak to Kreayshawn with Beau from MTV's "Awkward." And things went pretty, pretty well, actually.

» Talk about a red-carpet massacre: VMA pre-show opening act Cobra Starship, Pete Wentz, Mindless Self Behavior, Flo Rida, JC Chasez and yeesh, the cast of "Teen Wolf" all came crashing through the rope line at the same time, creating a kind of beautiful car crash of pretty flesh and great teeth.

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards have wrapped, but the real action is just getting started! Stick with MTV News for winners, fashion pics, video and behind-the-scenes stories about everything that went down. Visit VMA.MTV.com for the latest.

Lady Gaga's VMA Performance All About 'Fearlessness'

Laurieann Gibson calls opening performance an opportunity to 'create a new understanding of music.'

So much for giving up the goods.

We really tried to get Laurieann Gibson, Lady Gaga's creative director, to spill her guts about what Mother Monster has planned for her VMA performance on Sunday, but she's keeping things under wraps — in the best way possible.

She jokingly said a few censored (and, considering how much she's bleeped in the embedded video, obscene) things about what viewers will see. Long story short: She's not telling.

But Gibson did say of Gaga's opening performance, "I hope that people take the fearlessness away. The notion that you don't have to follow what is popular and that you can constantly take the opportunity and create a new understanding of music and performing.

"It could mean standing under one spotlight," she continued. "It could mean tons of camels and belly-dancing girls. I don't know. One is not necessarily better than the other. But it is about the artist. It's about 'Who's the artist?' So in that one moment, you have to take it and give it all you can."

Gibson is just following suit on the secrecy front: When Gaga talked to MTV News last week, she said she wants to surprise her fans at the VMAs. "I'm really very honored and excited to open the show," Lady Gaga told MTV News. "But I won't reveal anything; I want it to be a surprise."

From what Gaga and Gibson revealed, the performance sounds like it will be avant garde, much like her 2009 VMA set, when Gaga took the stage for a blood-soaked "Paparazzi" performance.

"It will be a continuation of everything I've been doing, and it will be exactly what they want," Gaga said. "I'm pretty good at knowing what my fans want me to do."

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. See the list of nominees, revisit last year's highlights and vote for Best New Artist by visiting VMA.MTV.com.
